These rods are designed for the pike angler who is mainly bank fishing at medium to long range and using bigger baits. Particularly suitable for bigger pits, reservoirs and strong flowing rivers. For close range fishing they are still very suitable, especially when fishing against snags and weed. Eel anglers will find them just right too as the action is progressive and very forgiving. They are equally at home with mono or braided lines. I mainly use them in conjunction with my leger set up that can be found detailed on the Fox Library page. I also use them for drifter float fishing and when dropping baits with a bait boat at ranges over 100 metres, using braided lines for both tactics.

This rod is perfectly balanced with a Shimano 10000 Baitrunner reel or similar. It's ideally suited to mono lines of 15 lbs b.s or braided lines of 30 lbs b.s. In snaggy conditions it can be used with 20 lb mono or 50 lb braid.

These rods are powerful for casting and setting hooks at range but have a very pleasing playing action.

Deadbaiting is still one of the most popular ways of targeting pike in the UK today, despite the upsurge in recent years of many new lure techniques. Indeed, surveys show that approx two thirds of anglers still prefer bait fishing and in particular, deadbaiting. Take my advice - use all methods, you'll have more fun and become a better angler! I've always enjoyed deadbaiting. To date this method has produced around 160 pike for me weighing over 20 lbs and including quite a few thirties, best 34 lb 7 oz on a smelt. Where pike fishing is popular, they often move out of easy casting range. On bigger waters like pits and reservoirs, the pike sometimes simply prefer to be well away from the bank. With this in mind and the need to often cast a long way, I've developed this high performance, heavy duty pike rod that is highly suited to casting bigger baits and long distances in these circumstances. Don't expect this to be a heavy, unwieldy rod. Modern materials and careful design have allowed us to produce a very light, crisp actioned rod. We've reduced the length from the standard 12 ft to 11 ft 9 ins, there was no need to stick to convention and this helped to improve the action and reduce weight. Further reduction in weight and casting friction has been achieved by using the high spec Fox Sliks, 3 leg rings. More than ever, we're paying attention to styling too!

One of many big pike I have caught on long range deadbait tactics. This one weighed 31 lb 8 oz and took a whole pollan.
