| I developed this boat rod primarily for bait fishing from a boat for pike and zander, although you will see that it is more versatile than just that. For years, boat anglers have 'made do' with twelve foot long bank fishing rods, finding them unwieldy and cumbersome. I set out to produce a rod that would be comfortable to use in boats ranging from my ten foot aluminium to my sixteen foot Orkney. First of all it needed to be shorter than a bank rod to give more leverage when playing a fish. I arrived at an ideal length of 10 ft 3 ins which gave me all of the handling characteristics I was looking for. It casts a surprisingly long way, much further than you would normally need to cast from a boat. Line pick up on the strike is extremely positive, especially with braided line. As regards playing fish, well this rod will give you a feeling of control with even the biggest of pike and you should handle them with confidence. Its designed for big pike but is a most pleasing rod to play pike of any size on. In fact, it is such a forgiving rod it has quickly become my first choice as a zander bait rod, not only from the boat but also from the bank.One of my favourite rods! |
| These rods are designed for the pike angler who is mainly boat fishing but they are admirably suitable as bank rods, especially at close to medium range and for zander too. They are equally at home with mono or braided lines. I mainly use them in conjunction with my float deadbait set ups and free roaming, trolled or drifted live or deadbaits and when it is possible to moor up tightly, I use them for sunk float paternoster and leger fishing methods in conjunction with Fox Boat Rod rests and front alarms. They are also useful for wobbling deadbaits and are great rods for trolling deadbaits and bigger lures too. A most versatile rod for the angler who likes to cover many options when afloat. | This rod is perfectly balanced with a Shimano Super 4000 GTM-RA rear drag reel or similar. It's ideally suited to mono lines of 15 lbs b.s or braided lines of 30 lbs b.s. In snaggy conditions it can be used with 20 lb mono or 50 lb braid. |
