I looked at the design of this rod from a very
practical point of view. First off all it needed to be
light in weight and a pleasure to use all day long.
Modern materials allow this and a material was
chosen with a great looking finish. The length had
to be just right to be practical from bank, boat or for
trolling. Seven ft is my chosen length after using
dozens of rods over the years. It had to cast and
work my selected range of mid weight lures. This
was achieved by working on the ideal stiffness at
different points in the blank. And most importantly to
me, it had to handle hard fighting fish with in such a
way that I am under complete control and dominate
the fight yet retaining a very pleasing playing action.
The Fox engineers got it just right! The result, a rod I
am confident to use virtually anywhere with all but
the most specialised of lures.
Its easy to become overwhelmed by the wide range of lure
fishing rods available today. Well, let that confusion stop
right here! Yes, there is a need for specialist rods for ultra
light lures, jig fishing, heavy lures and specialist techniques
like jerk baiting. The fact is though that the vast majority of
popular mid range lures, those in common use by the
majority of anglers, can be used effectively with just one rod.
I have always believed this to be so and with this in mind I
set out to develop a rod that would suit the angler who
wanted just one lure rod that would cope with all but the
most specialised of lures.

Within its casting weight range of 20 to 70 grams fall a
whole selection of popular lures like spoons,  larger
spinners,  spinnerbaits,  crankbaits, surface lures, larger
jigs and a huge range of soft plastics which can be worked
very effectively with this rod. It is even stiff enough to work
some of the smaller jerkbaits and especially those that
need just a gentle tap to get them working. Here are some
of the Fox lures that can be used with this rod.
All of the Micro Jerks,The 6 inch Replicant and the Shallow
Deviant, the 5 and 6 inch Chubby Shads, all of the
spinnerbaits, the Weedbuster bucktail spinner, most of the
smaller crankbaits and surface lures, medium sized tail
baits like the Micro Demon and small Rooter, jerkbaits like
the Runts and Teardrop. From the new 2006 range, the
larger Creature Spins, Twisters and Twin Tails and most of
the spoons! See what I mean, if you want just one rod,
provided that you do not go to extremes, this is the one to go
for.
Its versatile too. Long enough for a bank rod but not at all
unwieldy for casting from a boat. In fact it makes a great
trolling rod too with many of the lures mentioned.
This rod is perfectly balanced with a Shimano Stradic 2500 FA reel or similar.

It's ideally suited to 30 lb b.s braided lines. In snaggy situations or if you are
mainly using heavier lures then you can safely step up to 50 lb b.s.
in more heavy duty situations such as in rocks, tree stumps and dense
weed.most situations I use 30 lb Fox Carboflex wire, stepping up to 40 lb
Carboflex weed.
This rod has plenty of stopping
power for heavyweights like this.
Just a few of the Fox lures you can use with the Mick Brown Spin Stick lure rod.
Lure fishing is a great method at any time of the year if you select your lures and techniques carefully.
